Beautiful minty Ames Naval Officer sword presented to an Officer who served the entire war. Guard has standard casting with almost all the original gilt remaining. Sharkskin grip and wire are in great condition as well. Blade has original polish and frost. Etch is excellent. Obverse side is Ames address / foliate / fouled anchor - union shield / circle of 13 stars / stand of arms / ships rigging with USN pennant. Reverse etch is eagle on a cannon - rays / fouled anchor - USN ribbon / rope - foliate. Leather scabbard is excellent with all mounts and drag having original gilt. Rear top mount is Ames marked as it should be. Top mount is inscribed: Presented to / Frank H.Freeman / by his Friends / Monday Evening / July 28th / 1862. Frank Freeman was mustered in a Mate 6/26/1862, promoted to Acting Ensign 7/21/64. Honorably discharged 2/18/66.
