Presentation to Capt. Harris who had 50 years active service and was the 6th Commandant of the Marine Corps. A magnificent and unique Marine Mamaluke of regulation pattern but with the ability to add a fighting guard or remove for Regulation.

Manufactured: English   Maker: Not Maker Marked  Year: 1830 - 1837  Model: Mamaluke, USMC  Size: 31.25 inch blade, 1.48 wide, .335 thick  Condition: Excellent+

This unique style Marine Officer's Mamaluke has fighting as well as dress regulation in it's design. There is a removable hand guard added for fighting, removed for dress. The pipe back blade with it's huge sweeping curve is equally as diverse with some of the most beautiful etching on a full Damascene pattern blade but again made in massive proportions for a formidable fighting weapon. The blade is etched with Warranted, a stand of arms with Liberty cap pole, a Federal Eagle with 15 stars and E. Pluribus Unum, an early style Indian face and full standing Lady Liberty. The guard is silver plated steel. The grip is dark brown hardwood or horn. The steel scabbard has an etched presentation between the carry rings. It reads:  “Presented to Capt. JOHN HARRIS / (as) Tribute of Respect and Esteem by the City / (of) (only some letters visible) HORSE MARINE”. The carry rings are of a "split" ring design.
