John L. Mulliken was a 20 year old student residing in Boston when eh enlisted on 5/26/62 as a Private. On 5/27/62 he mustered into Co. B, 4th Battalion Massachusetts Infantry, a 3-month regiment. He mustered out on 5/31/62 at Boston. He re-enlisted and on 9/12/62 he mustered into Co. H, 44th Massachusetts Infantry, a 9-month regiment. Promoted to 1st Sergt. On 9/12/62, and to 2nd Lt. on 6/3/63 (not mustered). Mulliken mustered out on 6/18/63 at Readville, MA. Company muster rolls indicate that he was present with both regiments during his terms of service. Following the war Mulliken filed pension claim dated 1899 in England; his wife subsequently filed for a Widow’s pension in 1905, also from England.
