He mustered out of service on July 11, 1865 at Washington, DC.

Private Fleming’s single-shot, muzzle loading rifled musket is in fair condition and was produced by the Federal armory in Springfield, Massachusetts in sometime in 1862. Musket retains its original stock, nipple and bolster screw, swell-shank ramrod, barrel bands, swivel sling hooks and triggerguard. All gunmetal is dark overall and wears a coat of rust with pitting on all components, especially the barrel. Breech area heavily pocked with rust as is the bolster area. Lock plate, with the C-shaped hammer, is also dark and pitted. Stampings in front of the hammer are gone save for scant date markings behind the hammer that read”1862.” Hammer screw is missing. Date stamp is pitted away on the top flat of breech. Breech bolster has its original nipple and is heavily rusted. Bolster screw buggered up. All proof marks are rust pitted and not visible all strong.

Mechanics crisp. Barrel has no rear sight. Bore is strong but dark with pitting in areas. Black walnut stock is original with no cracks or repairs visible. Exhibits four, 1” diameter circular designs carved into right side of stock. Soldier identification “99 P. V. F. (diamond) (6-point star)” carved into left flat of stock. Also carved into stock at the left wrist area is “T. FAYETTE.” Last carving is an “X” at the stock adjacent to the butt strap. Stock retains its many normal dings and dents from use and storage. No government cartouches visible. Swelled shank steel ramrod is original but has its threaded tip broken off. A classic veteran Model 1861 Springfield rifle musket dated 1862 identified to a Pennsylvania soldier from Pittsburgh.

Comes with his military records from the National Archives.
