Maker mark [on handle ferrule]: “Samson/ Bost_n”. Three fold-out utensils set in wooden pocket set, measuring 4’ in length, .75” in width. Spool bowl contains etched ID, “Wm. Orr/ 1864.” Handle wood & rivets VG; all three utensils are strong and function smoothly, while exhibiting light wear & age spotting. Else VG plus.

William Orr was drafted as a private into Co. “F”, 118^th Pennsylvania on 8/1/1863. He was wounded at the Battle of the Wilderness on 5/7/1864, and was discharged 5/26/1865. The 118^th Pennsylvania, also known as the “Corn Exchange” regiment, was organized May 15-30, 1862, at Philadelphia, PA. Attached to the 5^th Corps, it participated in the Maryland / Antietam Campaign in the autumn of 1862, and served thereafter in all the major battles and campaigns of the Army of Potomac through Gen. Lee’s surrender at Appomattox. It was mustered out 6/1/1865. During service it lost 141 men killed and mortally wounded, and 112 by disease for a total of 253.
