Volume meas. approx. 3.00 x 4.50 inches. Title page reads “THE NEW TESTAMENT OF THE LORD AND SAVIOR JESUS CHRIST TRANSLATED FROM THE ORIGINAL GREEK.” Volume was published in Glasgow in 1843.

Book is bound with brown leather covers front and back with a tooled geometric design on the surface. Both coves are loose but present. Edges are badly scuffed. Spine is chipped at bottom.

Inside front cover has period ink inscription “AFX.” First page has numerous pencil marks and scroll decoration with “AEXR. ROSS / 1864.” Below this is “… TH N. H. VOLS”

Both covers and title page are dirty and discolored with age. Interior is well bound but all pages have browned with age.

Alexander Ross was born in England. When he came to the United States is not known. He enlisted as a Private at age 22 in Company B, 5th New Hampshire on November 27, 1863. He transferred out on April 23, 1864 to serve as a Landsman in the US Navy. He deserted from the USS Commodore Read on May 26, 1864.

The 5th New Hampshire was one of the premier regiments of the Union army.   [AD]
