Group of nine badges and pins that were collected by George Miller of the 12th PA Cavalry from the various veteran reunions that he attended. Badges include a 1913 Gettysburg reunion medal with hangar and red white and blue silk ribbons, a Jennie Wade House pin with red white and blue silk ribbons that have decorative gold colored wheat stalks attached, a star shaped G.A.R. medal with eagle hanger and flag ribbon dated 1866, a 50th anniversary celluloid pin with images of a Union and Confederate soldiers dated 1913 on red, white and blue cockades, a star shaped medal with hangar and a small pin from the 1912 reunion in Los Angeles, CA, brass crossed rifles reunion pin with small piece of blue and white silk ribbon attached, a snowflake pin with jewel in the center, and small round G.A.R. medallion with star in the center.

These were stored in a vintage wooden Cuban cigar box along with a booklet, “The Roster of the Department of Pennsylvania, Grand Army of the Republic”, a document dated 1879 titled, “Soldier’s Certificate of Honorable Discharge” a letter cover with wax seals which was a soldier’s package sent from Miller containing twenty dollars by, “Then Adam’s Express Company, Baltimore, MD. “, a War Department postcard from U.S.A. General Hospital in Fort McPherson, GA dated 1919, and the top section of a  document titled, “Application for Burial of Deceased Widow of Soldier, Sailor or Marine”. Cigar box measures 11” x 5” x 2 ¼”.

Miller enlisted on March 31, 1864 as a Private and was mustered into in Co. “M”, 12th PA Cavalry. He was mustered out on July 20, 1865 in Winchester, Virginia.

This is a fabulous collection of veteran items that is rare to have stayed together over the years.   [sm]
