Small soldier’s prayer book, approximately 3” x 4 ½” and 63 pages.  Published by the Protestant Episcopal Book Society in Philadelphia. Paper covers show moderate wear just from age and use. Back cover has some loss on top and bottom. Spine is solid. Interior pages remain clean and in good condition. Blank page opposite title page is nicely inscribed in pencil: “JOSEPH S. WILLSON / CO,, F,, 12TH MICH / VVI / DEVALL BLUFF AR / MARCH 7TH, 1865”.

Joseph S. Wilson enlisted on October 14, 1861 as a private in Company F, 12th Michigan Infantry. He re-enlisted on December 30, 1863. Was promoted to corporal on May 1, 1864 and to Sergeant on May 8 1865. He was mustered out of service in Little Rock, AR, on February 15, 1866.

This is a great personal item that many soldiers carried while away from home and with a very nice identification inside.  [jet]
