$250.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: 913-70

12.25" x 15.25" matted display with a strand of the actual hair of Robert E. Lee with a copy of a portrait of him mounted on his horse “Traveler” with his hat raised, as well as a brief description of the origin of the hair. Single matted with gray stock and Florentine gold frame around the hair.

Robert E. Lee is well-known as the beloved leader of the Confederate Army of Northern Virginia leading that army through many great victories until finally being brought to bay at Appomattox on April 9, 1865.

This strand of hair originated from a small envelope marked with an 1869 inscription stating that a lock of the General’s hair was given to a woman who stored it in the envelope. A Xerox of the envelope with the inscription is included in the frame. There is also a statement of provenance signed by a lifetime member of The Manuscript Society. [ad]
