Here is a wood match safe in the shape of a small barrel. Measures approximately 2 ½” tall x 1 ½” in diameter.  Carved around the center is “A.F.  12 N.H.”  This item is identified to Asahel Flanders of Company B, 12th New Hampshire Infantry.

Flanders enlisted on August 12, 1862.  He was wounded at Chancellorsville and again at Cold Harbor. He was discharged in May of 1865. Copies of his military records are included.  [jet]
