By D.H Mahan. Published by John Wiley, New York, 1864. Owner inscription, front eps& title page, in ink: “Isaac Dyer/ Skowhegan, Maine. 168 pp., fldg. diagrams. In black blind-stamped buckram, 6.5 x 4.25, w/gilt spine lettering. Exhibit one tiny spine nick, else near pristine.
Born in 1820, Isaac Dyer was a resident of Skowhegan, ME, who was commissioned Lt. Colonel, Field & Staff, 15th Maine Infantry, 12/17/1861. He was promoted regimental colonel, 8/26/1862, and Bvt. Brigadier General, 3/13/1865. He was discharged 9/13/1865. His unit served in the Louisiana theater, participating in the Red River Campaign and the Battle of Sabine Crossroad. Transferred east, the Maine 15th Maine was present at Bermuda One Hundred. During service it lost 5 men killed and 343 by disease for a total of 348.
Dyer died in Skowhegan in 1913 at the age of 92, and is buried there in North Cemetery.
