Isaac Dyer was commissioned Lieutenant Colonel into 15^th Maine Infantry Field & Staff, 12/17/1861. He was promoted regimental Colonel 8/26/1862, and to Brevet Brigadier General, 3/13/1865. He was discharged 9/13/1865. His regiment, the 15^th Maine, was initially dispatched to Louisiana and participated in the Red river Campaign and the Battle of Sabine Pass. Transferred east it was present at Bermuda One Hundred. During service it lost 5 men killed and 343 to disease for a total of 348.

Dyer died in Skowhegan in 1913 at the age of 92, and is buried there in North Cemetery.
