This identified Civil War CDV image is that of Daniel E. Jenkins of the 51st New York Volunteer Infantry, K.I.A. at The Wilderness, VA on May 6, 1864. The twenty-year old from New York City enlisted as a Sergeant on August 19, 1861 and mustered into Company E, 51st New York infantry regiment on September 9th, 1861. In this image, Jenkins presents a chest view and gazes to his left and away from the camera with a confident expression on his face. Image is clear and sharp. The clean-shaven soldier wears what appears to be a civilian coat over a military vest. His name in fancy script, “Capt. D. E. Jenkins” appears on the CDV face below the image. No rank markings visible. CDV is backmarked “BOGARDUS / Photographer / 363 Broadway, / NEW YORK’ and has modern handwritten notes in pencil above and below the BM. CDV is in excellent condition with no trimming. Double set of gold borders present. A fine image of an identified New York infantry officer who died in action at The Wilderness.
