CDV OF 199TH PENNSYLVANIA SOLDIER WITH 24TH CORPS BADGE

$195.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: 224-146

This CDV is a nice seated view attributed to be Private John A. Burgner of Company I, 199th Pennsylvania Infantry. Bergner is posed with one arm resting on the table next to him on which his slouch hat sits. The hat is turned so the side of the crown and a heart shaped Corps badge representing the 24th Corps can be seen. Private Burgner wears a dark frock coat with Sergeant chevrons and light trousers with a wide NCO leg stripe.

Reverse has a canceled 2 cent stamp and a photographer’s imprint for EXCELSIOR GALLERY…LEBANON, PA. There are also two light pencil inscriptions that look to be period, one reads “UNCLE JOHN” and the other reads “JOHN A. BURGNER.”

The image is clean and bright with good contrast.

John A. Burgner enlisted as a Private in Company I, 199th Pennsylvania Volunteers on September 26, 1864. There is no record of him being promoted to Sergeant. He was mustered out at Richmond on June 28, 1865 at Richmond. The regiment saw action at Boydton Plank Road, Fort Gregg, Rice’s Station and Appomattox.
