CDV is a three-quarter standing view of John S. Bridges. He is wearing a dark colored frock coat, white shirt, cravat, and dark colored trousers. His hat and hand are resting on a flag covered table. Bottom of mount is marked with a handwritten signature in period ink, “J.S. BRIDGES 1ST LT. CO. K”.

The reverse has a photographer’s imprint which reads, “VAN STAVOREN, PHOTOGRAPHER, NO. 53, COLLEGE STREET, BETW’N UNION ST. & SQUARE, NASHVILLE, TENN”.

Image is clear and the contrast is good. Surface has some light dirt from age. Image has yellowed with time.

John S. Bridges was a resident of Johnson County, IL when he enlisted as a Private on 10/1/61; mustered into Co. K, 60th Illinois on 2/7/62. Promoted to 2nd Lt. 3/31/62 and 1st Lt. 8/31/62. Following the war he was a member of GAR Post# 297 Carbondale, IL; he died in June 1889 is buried in Oakland Cemetery in Carbondale.

The 60th participated in the siege at Corinth, the battles surrounding Chattanooga, and the Atlanta Campaign during Sherman’s March to the Sea.     [sm/ld]
