CDV is a chest-up view of Coe Durland. He is wearing a dark colored double breasted frock coat with shoulder boards.
The reverse has a photographer’s imprint which reads, “BOGARDUS PHOTOGRAPHER, 363 BROADWAY COR. FRANKLIN ST. NEW YORK”. There is a green tax stamp present.
Image is clear and the contrast is good. Surface has some light dirt from age. Image has yellowed with time.
Coe Durland was a resident of Wayne County, PA. He enlisted on September 27, 1862 as a 1st Lieutenant and was commissioned into Co. “M”, 17th PA Cavalry. He received the following promotions- October 23, 1862 as Captain, November 20, 1862 as Major where he was transferred from Co. “M” into Field & Staff, February 13, 1865 as Lt. Colonel, and March 13, 1865 as Colonel by Brevet. He was discharged on June 20, 1865. Following the war, he was the founder of the Durland-Thompson Shoe Manufacturing Co, in Honesdale,PA. Durland died in 1903 and is buried in Glen Dyberry Cemetery in Honesdale, Wayne County. [sm]
