CDV is a chest-up view of Samuel W. Williams. He is wearing a dark colored coat with vest, white shirt and cravat.

The reverse has a photographer’s imprint which reads, “PHOTOGRAPHED BY J.D. WELLS, NO. 6 MERCHANTS ROW, NORTHHAMPTON, MASS.”. Also present on reverse is a green tax stamp, which has been initialed. Light pencil ID, “S. W. Williams / _____ 1865 / Co H 37 Regt”.

Image is clear and the contrast is good. Surface has some light dirt from age. Image has yellowed with time.

Samuel W. Williams was a resident of Williamsburg, MA where he worked as a stabler. He enlisted at the age of 21, on August 6, 1862 as a Private, and on August 30 he was mustered into Co. “H”, 37th MA Infantry. He was mustered out on June 21, 1865 at Washington, D.C.    [sm]
