C. 1863. Backmark: “Published by E. & H.T. Anthony/ 501 Broadway/ New York/ From Photographic Negative in BRADY’S National Portrait Gallery. Image sharp and clear. An 1842 West Point graduate, Abner Doubleday served at Ft. Sumter during its 1861 bombardment, commanded a 1st Corps Division at Antietam and Fredericksburg and assumed 1st Corps command at Gettysburg following the death of John Reynolds, 7/1/1863. After which he was replaced by Gen. John Robinson, and held no further command during the course of the war. Image sharp and clear. Semi-scarce. Solid piece for Gettysburg commander aficionados. [jp]
