Item Code: 503-155

With an unidentified female. Both views seated. Full thermo-plastic case with brass mattes. A diminutive and very young Pvt. Cassell wears plug style hat w/crossed saber device surmounted by company numeral “20” [reverse image in plate], 12 button shell jacket w/buttoned vest underneath, & kersey blue trousers. Female companion also diminutive and young, probably no more than fifteen, though she appears larger than the soldier because seated closer to the camera. Wears sleeveless dress allowed to young girls, with bracelets and a necklace, with hair being pulled back and plaited into a pony tail which appears draped over her left shoulder. The leftward image of soldier has a slightly grayish tint, that of the girl is lighter. Her outer glass has a bubbly blemish over the face and bodice. Though the images themselves are relatively clear, there is much lint in the interstices of both. Mattes and case interiors in superb shape. Upper case lid has an unobtrusive and a half inch crack. Else VG.

David H. Cassell enlisted as private and was mustered into “Co. E”, 20th PA Cavalry on 1/20/1864.
