Image is clear with good contrast. Shows light surface dirt or smudges.

James S. Abell enlisted at the age of 34 on 10/9/1861 as a 2nd Lieutenant. On 10/9/1861 he was commissioned into "I" Co. OH 6th Cavalry. He was killed on 5/9/1864 at Hawes' Shop, VA. He received the following promotions: Captain on 12/16/1861; Major on 5/9/1864 - (killed on day of commission, not mustered). He is buried at the National Cemetery in Fredericksburg, VA.  [sl]
