Civil War period lithograph of Confederate General Ambrose Powell Hill of Virginia. Hill is well known as one of the Confederate Army’s best Generals. He graduated from West Point in 1847 and served in the Mexican and Seminole Wars. When the Civil War broke out Hill resigned his commission in the US Army and became Colonel of the 13th Virginia. He quickly rose to Division command. He led his Division from the Seven Days Battles before Richmond to Chancellorsville. On May 24th 1863 Hill was promoted to Lieutenant General and assigned to the command of the newly created 3rd Corps. Hill led the Corps from Gettysburg until his death in action at Five Forks on April 2, 1865.

This image is a period lithograph of Hill in the uniform of a Confederate General. The mount is trimmed and across the top is an ink inscription that reads “HILL. REB.” Reverse has a pencil inscription that reads “A. P. HILL  REB.”
