Full standing view of a Union soldier leaning against the top of a high-backed chair. He wears a kepi, a dark frock coat open to reveal a light colored military vest and light trousers. The image is clear with good contrast. The paper and mount have light surface dirt and there is a small chip at the bottom right corner of the paper. The bottom of the mount has a period pencil inscription that reads “HARRISON BROWN.”
Reverse is covered with light period pencil inscriptions that appear to be a list of names. There is also a single line of modern collector’s information in pencil.
Harrison Brown was a 31 year old harness maker living in Salisbury when he enlisted as a Private in Company A, 1st Battalion Massachusetts Heavy Artillery. During Brown’s service his Battalion was assigned to the Forts around Boston. He was mustered out on October 10, 1865.
