Here he is! You either love him or hate him! I am sure he needs no introduction to students of the Civil War as his record is well known. He was at different times a Statesman, cuckolded husband, murder, soldier, Medal of Honor winner, adulterer, embezzler, “Yankee King of Spain” and an all around interesting guy, Major General Daniel Edgar Sickles.
CDV shows Sickles as a Brigadier General. He is seated in a chair holding his sword on his lap. He wears the double breasted frock coat of a Brigadier General with appropriate rank. This is Sickles before losing his leg at Gettysburg and winning the Medal of Honor. Image is clear with great contrast. There is some light surface dirt and the bottom of the mount has a period ink inscription that reads “GEN. D. E. SICKLES.”
Reverse has photographers imprint for E. ANTHONY…NEW YORK FROM A BRADY NEGATIVE. There is also a period pencil inscription on that reads “GEN’L SICKLES.”

This sword was probably sold by Schuyler, Hartley & Graham of New York. The pattern is pictured in their 1864 catalogue in figures 13 and 16. Rather than have a standard blade, the lightly curved 32 inch blade has "B.K." (Battery K) on the left… (870-447). Learn More »
