Each bag is made of leather and meas. approx. 11.00 inches long x 7.50 inches high x 3.50 inches deep. Each bag has its own flap with “Y” shaped leather closure straps and roller buckles. Tip of strap is missing on one bag. The bags are connected by a strip of leather as is common to all saddle bags. This strip meas. approx. 13.50 inches long and tapers toward the center being 9.75 inches long where it attaches to the bags down to 6.00 inches at the center.
The interior of one bag has two leather bottle holders. One can hold 9 small bottles and the other can hold 8 of a larger size. There are two large bottles present and 5 of the smaller as well as one wooden pill container. The opposite bag contains a similar leather bottle holder for 7 bottles 5 of which are present.
All the leather is worn, supple and shows heavy wear. There is moderate to severe crackling and some surface finish loss.
Attached to one of the bags is an old label with “REBEL MEDICINE BAGS RICHMOND 1865” written in period ink over printed lettering that reads “ FROM D. M. BOBB, MANUFACTURER OF FINE CIGARS, WOMELSDORF, PA.”
