FINE HEAVY BRASS MORTAR AND PESTLE

$125.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: 179-588

This artifact is a type of mortar and pestle used for centuries by those in the medical fields to grind solids into fine powders to be used in various medications. The circular, vase-like shaped brass mortar has a 4” diameter bowl and stands 4½” high. Matching brass-handled pestle is 7” long and has a bulbous tip. In fine condition, the hefty mortar is finished smooth and shows double lines of tooling around the cup area. Bottom base of the mortar is also lightly tooled but has no maker marks or stamps. Pestle likewise has light tooling along the shaft but is not marked. This accoutrement shows honest use but no abuse and would make a great addition to any medical or doctor’s display.
