Item Code: 729-93

Presented is a beautiful teakwood cased, deep red velvet lined surgical amputation kit reminiscent of those used in the mid-nineteenth century. In almost mint condition, the medical kit ensemble is a high quality reproduction medical kit and contains a total of over forty finely crafted individual medical instruments and appliances typically used in the surgical field.

Set is a complete, modern kit made by the E. G. Archer & Son Surgical Instrument Co. of Knoxville, Tennessee. Featured are three case compartments that hold maker-marked, matched, stainless instruments including amputating knives, catlins, scalpel, tenaculums, surgeons needles, suture needles, and surgeon’s wire. Also a bone file, brush and forceps, scissors, various medical saws, and one large oval brass medallion that should be re-glued to the center of the top lid.

Instruments are housed in a double-hinged, original seasoned teak case finished with a satin varnish finish. When closed, the lockable case measures 17½” long x 5¾” wide x 4½” high. Case has no key, but locks and unlocks by moving a brass slider housed in each of the recessed brass locks on front face of case. Entire case interior is lined with a deep crimson velvet material in super condition. Case has no label with the maker’s name, but it does come with a paper copy of the firm’s address and an inventory of the items within.

This high-grade reproduction surgical case with its fine grouping of instruments offers a unique opportunity to add a piece of American medical history to any min-19th century medical collection.
