Vintage foundry cast brass apothecary mortar and pestle for grinding herbs and spices. It is made from extremely thick brass, is a very heavy piece, and has a wonderful patina from age.
Sturdy footed mortar stands approx. 4 '' tall. Base has a diameter of approx. 3 ½”. Top opening is 4 ½” wide across rim to rim. Bowl is 3 ¼” deep. Brass on the outside is semi-bright with some spotting, inside has a darkened green patina.
Rugged pestle is approx. 8” long. Has a nice, semi-bright patina. Surface is pitted. Round end has some verdigris and edges are worn from use. [sm]
