English Delft porcelain jar features the image of a lion using a mortar and pestle. Cartouche label reads, “FARMACIA” EL AMPARO” / PUL: TAMARIND:”. This was used for tamarind, which has a long history of medicinal uses. Many involve easing stomach discomfort, aiding digestion, and use as a laxative. Tamarind preparations are used for fevers, sore throat, rheumatism, inflammation, and sunstroke.

Jar has a few small chips, which is typical from age and use. Gold gilt has worn in areas.

Measures 10 ½” high x 4 ½” at the base.     [SM]
