Regulation model 1839 white buff leather shoulder belt (baldric). The stitching is complete and unbroken. The belt is in excellent condition; complete and unbroken. All stitching is tight and unbroken. The outward surface shows evidence of being “chalked” or “painted” as was needed to keep the white leather in a clean appearance. Inner surface shows dirt from use and age. Remnants of inked maker’s stencil visible but not totally decipherable…three lines with maker’s name, street address, an “New York”. Also on inside, written in pen & ink is “W.W.H. Co G No 11”. Shoulder belt is cut for a plate which is no longer with the belt.
The condition of this piece is excellent and would be a great addition to any 1842 musket display. [jet]
