Large canvas tarred haversack too big to be Federal issue yet it is similar in appearance to those carried by Union soldiers.

The body of the bag meas. approx. 18.00 inches long x 15.75 inches high. Some of the surface finish has worn off in scattered areas exposing the canvas underneath. One edge of the bag has a large hole that meas. approx. 8.00 inches high x 5.00 inches across. Still present on the front of the bag is a single small black round button with an iron shank. Only the thread remains of its mate opposite. The flap anchored to these two buttons to hold the bag closed.

Shoulder strap appears to be unbroken and is tied into a knot. One side of the knot has 10.00 inches of the strap while the other has about 12.00 inches.

The interior of the bag only retains about a quarter of the linen liner.  [ad]
