This plate was meant to be worn on the sling of the drum and to hold the drumsticks when not in use. The front of the plate is made of a sheet of thin brass with clipped corners. Mounded on the face are two cylindrical holders through which the drumsticks pass. These cylinders are a little smaller than a drumsticks widest area and friction holds the sticks in the cylinders.
The reverse has a applied three pronged attachment hook. The reverse of the plate is also marked “G.L. CARRINGTON-APL. 4th.”
George L. Carrington of Carrington Manufacturing Company of Waterbury, Connecticut had Army contracts in 1864 & 1865.
