This small sized Pattern 1839 oval “US” belt plate came from an estate sale in Hanover, PA, which is approx. 14 miles east of Gettysburg. The face of the plate has a light patina with minor scratches and minor spots of discoloration.
The reverse has 100% of the lead fill and both the tongue and single arrow hook. Clearly carved in the lead on one edge is “J. LUNDY” while the other edge has “JANE.”
Very nice early plate.
