O’Donnell and Campbell Plate 589. Die-struck rolled brass face with lead filled back with arrow style hooks. Raised letters “PHG” on face. Light patina with some scattered age discoloration. This unit was raised and supported by The City of Philadelphia beginning in 1861. It contained 3 regiments and two battalions of infantry, 3 artillery batteries and two cavalry companies. The Home Guards were called into service in 1862 and 1863 during Confederate invasions. In July 1864 the 3rd Regiment Infantry became the 192nd Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry. One of the finest examples we’ve handled of this plate!
