1825-1835 MILITIA BELT PLATE

$450.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: 172-3909

This die-struck rolled brass plate has a spread-winged eagle at center with the rays of a sunburst behind his head and between his wings. At the end of the sunburst is a riband with “E PLURIBUS UNUM” and above this is a line of 13 five-pointed stars. The details on the face have very good detail and the surface has a light patina and light surface dirt.

The reverse has the brass tongue and bar. The bar has two iron prongs for attaching to a belt. Reverse shows a little more surface dirt than the face.

This style plate is known to have different variations some with 13 and some with 17 stars or with five-pointed or 6-pointed stars. The eagle motif is patterned after the 1821 cap insignia.
