This early plate is a stamped brass vertical oval with the letters “”U.S.” at center. Plate was meant for wear on the white buff cross belts worn early in the history of the US Army.

The face of the plate is in nice condition and is free of scratches, dings and dents. Also the stamped letters are strong. Scattered over the right side of the plate are some spots of oxidation.

Reverse has a thin layer of lead which holds the two wire hooks and doubled wire tongue. Lead also has a collectors or museum number in silver ink. [AD]
