CIVIL WAR US NAVY GENERAL SERVICE BELT PLATE

$300.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: 1047-160

Patterned after the 1841 general service plate, this item dates circa 1860-1865.  Buckles issued during this time period modeled an 1852 pattern that replicated the traditional eagle on vertical anchor with eagle on the horizon.  The eagle on anchor, in general, was issued to all officers in 1830.  The oval boarder had 13-26 stars which reflected the state count.  The item identified here has 13 stars, not necessarily representative of the states at that time.  This particular model was mass produced to match to rapidly expanding corps of officers.  Up until the 20th century, the general service plate was apart of the Navy’s inventory.

This U.S Navy General Service Plate, is brass with eagle on the horizon motif.  The inner circle measures 1 ¼” x 1 ¼”, and the outer ring is 2” x 2”.  Both pieces are in good condition with matching benchmark numbers ’84’.  [MK]
