19th CENTURY TIN DRUM CANTEEN - MILITIA OR CONFEDERATE?

$375.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: 450-48

6” diameter by 1 ¾” in width tin canteen with wire strap loops and tin spout. This design pre-dates the Civil War as early as 1820’s and can date as late as the 1860’s. We do know that Militia units both North and South used this version. We also know that this design was adopted and manufactured by the Confederacy. This example is in excellent condition, being free of surface dents and holes. The only defect is the lower wire loop is missing from it s mount. At one time in it’s history it had a label mounted on one side, but sadly it has long gone. All in all, a very nice example for your collection.
