CIVIL WAR/INDIAN WAR SMOOTHSIDE CANTEEN

$225.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: 172-3079

New York Depot smoothside canteen in good condition. The blue wool cover and original sling show some age with light dirt and wear. The cover has two or three small moth bites. The largest is the size of two pencil erasers placed side by side. The sling is wider than the usual Civil War period sling and may be a post-war replacement giving this a Civil War/Indian War date. The stopper has a complete but well-used cork and the pull-ring and chain are original. The spout is pewter. All three sling keepers are present. The body of the canteen has kept its shape and does not seem to have any major dings or dents.

The only thing about the canteen that may make it later than the Civil War is the sling and so many different types of slings were used, so we cannot say for sure.
