Philadelphia Depot bullseye canteen in good used condition. The brown wool cover and original sling show their age in dirt and wear but they are complete. The cover has some light staining throughout but there are no wear holes. The bulk of the slack in the sling is gathered under an old rubber band but it is complete. The stopper has most of the cork, the pull-ring and the original string. The pewter spout has the initials “SWC” carved on it. Two of the three sling keepers are present. One of the top keepers is missing but the sling is embedded in what is left of it. The body of the canteen has kept its shape and does not seem to have any major dings or dents.
Just above the remaining upper sling keeper is what looks to be a period repair to the sling. This repair also reinforces the string that attaches the cork stopper and pull-ring to the canteen.
This no doubt a well-used veteran of the war.
