Original New York Depot Model 1858 smooth side canteen with no sling but the original brown wool cover.

The body of the canteen has a circular dent at center of one side with a matching smaller dent at center on the opposite side. The wool cover is in excellent condition and shows only the lightest wear. Stitching on the seams of the cover is tight.

All three sling keepers are present. One of the upper keepers is punched with a hole for anchoring the chain for the cork stopper which is now gone. A replacement cork is present.

Spout is pewter with a horizontal lip.
