This smooth side canteen is of the pattern produced by the New York Depot.
The spheroid body is in fair condition. It is complete but has several dents that can be felt but not seen. The pewter spout is intact and in good condition. The cork and chain are good with the chain being attached to a hole in one of the upper keepers.
The body is covered in a gray wool that has some light areas of wear but is complete throughout. All three sling keepers are present on the body and the linen sling is near perfect. The sling has some light surface dirt but is clearly marked “US INSPECTOR/NEW YORK” in two lines. The lower area of the sling is marked in two places with the initials “WEM.”
