MODEL 1858 SMOOTHSIDE CANTEEN WITH COVER

$225.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: M25755

Standard issue Civil War canteen as carried by all branches during the war.

The canteen body is in good condition with the usual dent at center of one side. All three sling keepers are present with one having a punched whole for anchoring the cork stopper chain which is now missing. This type of attachment tells us that this canteen was made by the New York Depot. The pewter spout has a rather large lip and still retains the lower half of the cork stopper.

The brown wool cover is in very nice condition and shows only light wear and surface dirt from age and storage. Nothing remains of the sling.

Canteen has a nice used look. [ad]
