U.S. MODEL 1858 “BULLSEYE” CANTEEN

$150.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: 1000-588

The standard canteen issued to all Union troops in the field, this Philadelphia Depot-style canteen exhibits seven raised rings on each side. Accoutrement has its iron pull ring, cork stopper and a 6" length of metal chain.

Maker marked on spout, “J.H. PHILA” for Hadden, Booth & Porter. Owner’s initials carved over maker’s mark are, “C.R.”.

Canteen is very solid with very minor dings, dents and scratches from age and use. Shows small areas of very light surface rust.

The Philadelphia Depot produced over 1,500,000 such 'corrugated' canteens for the US Army. This 'corrugated' pattern tin canteen is a good example of what the Civil War soldier, and later the Indian War cavalryman carried on his person, day in and day out. For the collector seeking an original Civil War canteen at a most reasonable price, this canteen accoutrement would make an ideal addition to any grouping.  [sl]
