Here is a good example of an original ‘Anchor & Cannon’ badge as worn by members of the Federal 9th Army Corps during and after the Civil War. Constructed of die-stamped German silver, a pair of crossed cannons and a single anchor are embossed on badge’s red-painted face which indicates the Corps’ 1st Division. Red paint is lightly scuffed in spots but is still bright. A decorated symmetrical border lines the entire edge of the shield-shaped device. Badge wears a mellow patina on its face while the backside displays the brass pin fastener soldered directly to the shield. Shield measures 1¼” high x 1” wide. This attractive corps badge makes a fine addition to any Civil War insignia display or military collection.
