FINE CONDITION U.S. ENGINEERS' INSIGNIA

$135.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: M23862

This Civil War era artifact is a rare and fine Federal engineer hat device. The rolled, thin, sheet-brass insignia is intricately stamped and depicts a medieval-style castle with two turrets that flank a small center turret with a drawbridge. Worn on the crown of the officer’s kepi or forge cap, the insignia device exhibits its factory brass finish inside and out, though it has darkened somewhat, particular on the left front. No bends or creases. This insignia has both of its wire loops soldered to the back side. Artifact measures 1 7/8” long by 1 1/8” high. Never cleaned. A seldom seen, Federal engineer’s brass insignia.
