UNUSUAL 2ND CORPS BADGE

$595.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: 408-267

Badge is made of blue velvet with a twisted gold wire border with a circle at center made of gold bullion thread. The reverse shows hand stitching and has a sky-blue cloth backing. Badge meas. approx. 2.00 x 2.00 inches.

The arrangement is odd and may be for a staff officer who had service in both the 2nd and the 1st Corps. After Gettysburg when the 1st and 3rd Corps were disbanded units sent to other Corps would wear a 1st or 3rd Corps badge incorporated into the badge of the new Corps they were assigned to. For instance, it is known that some members of the Iron Brigade who served in the Wilderness with the 5th Corps wore 1st Corps circle in the center of a 5th Corps Maltese cross.

The condition of this item is excellent.
