This item is a piece of black felt that meas. approx. 4.75 inches long x 4.00 inches wide. Sewn to the felt are two pairs of Major’s oak leaves. If cut across the center you would end up with two shoulder strap length pieces of felt with the oak leaves arranged as they are found on straps.
A number of mid to late war images show officers wearing should-strap rank insignia with no borders or sometimes wearing only the cut-out rank which no doubt came from pieces like these.
The overall condition is excellent.
