1861 pattern gilt plated, brass die stamped cap plate insignia of the Union shield surrounded by a brass laurel “half wreath”. The letter M mounted within the infantry horn would have originally been present on the shield. Has a light patina, with gilt brighter on high areas. Shield measures approx. 3 ¼” x 3 ½”. Wreath measures 5 ¾” wide. Both pieces have an arched shape.
