Stamped brass intertwined script “NG” for use on cartridge and pistol boxes.

Item meas. approx. 1.75 inches x 1.50 inches. The face has some surface dirt and a nice mellow patina.

Reverse has four truncated attachment wires.

With the item is a modern typed label with some erroneous information that reads “NATIONAL GUARD PLATE—USED BY MILITIA UNITS EARLY IN THE WAR ON CARTRIDGE AND CAP BOXES. ONE SUCH UNIT WAS THE 9TH N. Y. HAWKINS ZOUAVES.”  [ad]
