T.D. MOORE, BRISTOL TENN, MARKED SADDLE BAGS

Item Code: M25716

A circa 1870s set of saddle bags from Bristol, Tennessee maker T. D. Moore.  Large bags measure approximately 12” wide x 10” tall x 3” deep. Side panels are reinforced and machine stitched. Bags are lined with a blue striped pillow ticking material. Large outer flaps feature a tooled edge, folded and sewn carrying handle, and closure straps.  The closure strap is constructed in an “arrow” pattern from three separate leather straps riveted and stitched in place. The center strap would have continued down to buckle into an iron roller buckle attached at the bottom.  Both buckles remain on the bottoms, but both latch straps have broken off at the bottom edge of the outer flaps.  A large piece of leather connects the two bags so as to sling them over the horse. This central portion also has tooled edges and each side bears an oval stamp that reads, “T.D. MOORE / MAKER / BRISTOL, TENN”.

Condition of leather is very good. Some surface cracking and crazing, especially on cross piece, but all leather is soft and pliable.  A very nice addition to any saddle.  [jet]
